How I quit checking Facebook on my phone

It’s not that complicated: I took the Facebook app off my iPhone a couple of weeks ago and haven’t looked back. I was also shocked at the lack of reflex to check Facebook once it was gone. Perhaps like you, every time I check Facebook (but particularly when I check it on my phone) my first reaction is “What am I doing here?” Repeat 25x/day, then you really start to disappoint yourself in the face of such a silly addiction. This was a knee-jerk reaction to a friend’s post on why she was deleting her Facebook app. Nope, not going to be so cutthroat with Instagram... Who’s in? Who’s done this already? Minimalism Video Tutorial: The Beloved Batik Shirt

Do you have any relics from your past hanging in your closet? I did. To me, it was absolutely more a relic than a garment. I loved the fabric more than the cut or style. I even used it to painstakingly craft a decoupaged gift for my best friend once. Was that reason for keep it for over a decade? Yes. Was that reason to keep it forever? No. This is one of the hardest things I've let go of in this video series. Watch the video below to see if you can relate. Have a similar item lurking in your home? Loved it, used it well, but ready to let it go? Please watch and share in the comments! Click here to watch the entire series!

Minimalism Video Tutorial: The books I love but never read

A few years ago I got rid of my only bookshelf after realizing that I never re-read books, and I only have about a dozen books that I could justify keeping. Always digging deeper to open up more space, I turned to my already very small book collection. In this video I share the books that didn't make the cut this time around. I am still an avid reader, I just read everything on a Kindle! Many of you are still "book people," so this isn't so much a pitch to go digital as it is to focus on the books you hold dear and to let go of the rest. Watch the video below. Minimalism Video Tutorial: The Crafty Project I Never Started

Minimalism Video Tutorial: The Spinning Shoes From My Past

Admit it: you still have workout clothes from a sport you haven't done in years, thinking you might get back into in someday maybe…. I did too.  In this minimalism series video, I get rid of my spinning shoes that I wore about 3x/week for a decade, but haven't worn in 3 years now (I'm strictly yoga these days).  I had to admit that this part of my life is over - at least for now.  No biggie.  Moving on.  Watch the video below and please leave a comment if you too will donate a sporty something from your past!

Minimalism Video Tutorial 5: The Gorgeous Gift I Don't Use

Do you feel like a total jerk when contemplating something that was gifted to you?  I used to (and still do sometimes) but just like everything else that entered our lives, gifts don't have to hang around forever.  Click play to watch my reasons for donating a very beautiful gift that just outwore its welcome:

Minimalism Video Tutorial 4: The Sentimental Sweater

Do you have anything in your home or closet that is wrapped in warm memories, and you keep telling yourself you'll use or wear it again, but never do?

So did I. Watch my new video on why I held on to a cozy old sweater with good memories and why I decided to let it go:

Every fall for at least 10 years I've pulled it out of the winter box thinking - I should wear this this winter - but never ever have.

If I can let go of my sweater, what can you let go of?  Share in the comments!

Minimalism Video Tutorial 3: The Painfully Beautifully Stilettos

What was I thinking? I've never been this girl and never will. They're about 4 inches too tall for my bad feet. Decorating my closet is NOT a good enough reason to keep these torturous beauties around.

Minimalism Video Tutorial 2: The Vintage Shearling Coat

This vintage shearling coat is absolutely one of my favorite pieces of clothing. Too bad it never fit and gives me claustrophobia attacks every time I wear it. 10 years later, we're finally parting ways.

Jerry Seinfeld's Sermon on Clutter

It's actually as much philosophizing as it is rampaging.

Take 5 minutes to watch his hilarious manifesto on shopping, accumulating, clutter, garages, and his perfect shopping experience.

The best line: "All things on earth only exist in different stages of becoming garbage."  I've watched it a few times and his take on storage facilities has me LOLing every time.

Enjoy, and tell me your favorite line in the comments!

The True Cost of Minimalism

minimalist Strange how this is true!  I don't think it should cost more. Absolutely not!

Want the look for less? Do it yourself (or hire an organizer)! Credit due to The New Yorker, of course.
